Since all this absurdity began I have been saying to anyone who would listen (and that's no-one): 'well, if a housewife like me living in the High Peak could see it coming, how come nobody else could?' For every peak there is a trough and the higher the peak the bigger the trough. You could not watch the news on a daily basis and not see that house prices going through the roof, a spend spend spend culture together with 'I want it and I want it now' could only go tits up anytime soon. Frankly, I can hardly be bothered with it all, it was so bloody inevitable. And, as you say, now we have to sit and listen to all the hand wringing by the very people who were in the most privileged position to see it coming. But hey ho, there's nothing like perspective to get the real picture, eh? Frankly, I'm lost for words at the incompetence and short-sightedness of it all.
