Yea, A Daniel Come To Jugement

There may still be some on Merseyside who feel that Heseltine's visit to the region after the Toxteth riots in 1981 had a long-term beneficial effect. Save for the Albert Dock renovation & an International Garden Festival site which soon fell into neglect & decay, there is no evidence to support that view. Last night's debate between Heseltine & Ken Loach on Newsnight (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J6OLguh7_P8 ) made for priceless viewing. Paxo looked on benignly as Loach skewered Heseltine's philosophy & record in government, a record which left a legacy still here today.

The people we have to thank for the kickstart does in fact include Hesseltine, even though it is hard to bear, but the riots attracted so much attention that they had to do something. Arthur Dooley got hold of Hesseltines lapels and begged him to do the Albert Dock up and I actually worked in Franklin Stafford architects who were on the Hesseltine bus and were the architects for the Albert Dock
